Portrait of Hugh
Ink on Paper 10" x 7" Private Collection
Artwork that is more considered, slower in production, and has time for corrections and revisions probably has a greater chance for success than attacking a piece with just frenetic inspiration. These types of works ride on the coattails of creative activity and will either hit or miss once the session of engagement has ended. For every piece that "hits" there is a pile of those that miss.
This ink/ink wash drawing is one of the times I think the material, the marks and the energy hit the mark in capturing the spirit of the sitter. Created years ago during a session with an artist's model, I can look at it today and be instantly transported back to that moment in time.
